چکیده

Importance sampling algorithms are discussed in detail, with an emphasis on implicit sampling, and applied to data assimilation via particle filters. Implicit sampling makes it possible to use the data to find high-probability samples at relatively low cost, making the assimilation more efficient. A new analysis of the feasibility of data assimilation is presented, showing in detail why feasibility depends on the Frobenius norm of the covariance matrix of the noise and not on the number of variables. A discussion of the convergence of particular particle filters follows. A major open problem in numerical data assimilation is the determination of appropriate priors; a progress report on recent work on this problem is given. The analysis highlights the need for a careful attention both to the data and to the physics in data assimilation problems. 2010 Mathematics Subject Classification. A Hybrid Monte Carlo Sampling Filter for Non-Gaussian Data Assimilation

Data assimilation combines information from models, measurements, and priors to obtain improved estimates of the state of a dynamical system such as the atmosphere. Ensemble-based data assimilation approaches such as the Ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) have gained wide popularity due to their simple formulation, ease of implementation, and good practical results. Many of these methods are derived...

Medical Image Retrieval Based On the Parallelization of the Cluster Sampling Algorithm

Cluster sampling algorithm is a scheme for sequential data assimilation developed to handle general non-Gaussian and nonlinear settings. The algorithm relaxes the Gaussian prior assumption widely used in the data assimilation context to approximate the prior distribution obtained by integrating the posterior distribution in previous assimilation cycles. The algorithm can be in general used to s...

Bayesian Sample size Determination for Longitudinal Studies with Continuous Response using Marginal Models

Introduction Longitudinal study designs are common in a lot of scientific researches, especially in medical, social and economic sciences. The reason is that longitudinal studies allow researchers to measure changes of each individual over time and often have higher statistical power than cross-sectional studies. Choosing an appropriate sample size is a crucial step in a successful study. A st...

Assimilation of Surface Current Measurements in a Coastal Ocean Model

An idealized, linear model of the coastal ocean is used to assess the domain of influence of surface type data, in particular how much information such data contain about the ocean state at depth and how such information may be retrieved. The ultimate objective is to assess the feasibility of assimilation of real surface current data, obtained from coastal radar measurements, into more realisti...

هم‌جوشی داده‌های موج در خلیج فارس با مدل طیفی ویوواچ3

The major problems in modeling of different oceanographic and meteorological parameters are limitations in numerical methods and human incomplete knowledge in physical processes involved. As a result, significant differences between the results of these models and in situ observations of these parameters might exist. One of the powerful solutions for decreasing the forecast errors in the models...
